Wow. Has a whole year gone already? It was time for the Leicester Mercury Business Awards again. I’ve done quite a few now with Paul Ross (brother of Jonathan) and he’s good to work with. Always the big question though – what to wear? Lots of things to bear in mind – there’s a microphone to hide somewhere, you have to get on and off the stage all the time and you need to be seen. I don’t think that black for the female presenter is a good option – unless it’s so drop dead gorgeous you just HAVE to wear it!! Now, on a recent long weekend in Portugal I experienced quite a lot of brain melt-down….melt-down that meant I completely forgot to take any money or cards with me (really!!), and I also forgot any work clothes which was important as I was going straight to the newsroom from the airport. So….I had to buy something (of course). And I found an emerald green fifties frock…very sticky out…with a little matching pearl edged cardi. It would have been OK for work – the colour is magnificent but then I thought with a bit of sparkle this is an outfit that could quite easily transfer to evening and even – an awards ceremony. With more than eight hundred people in the audience at the Platinum Suite, and businesses from across Leicester you have to look right. The green looked good with gold and then I was told that Lumbers Jewellers (www.lumbers.co.uk/ @lumbersjeweller) wanted to deck me out in diamonds for the night!! I really was worth a hundred thousand pounds. Sadly, they all had to go back after what was a magnificent night showcasing so many incredible success stories in Leicester. Roll on the Derby Telegraph Business Awards in June – and I already know what I’m wearing….I think!!
